Volunteering with VEXIQ

In Lake Stevens school district, we have four VEXIQ programs located at North Lake Middle School, Lake Stevens Middle School, Highland Elementary, Sunnycrest Elementary, and Mount Pilchuck Elementary. Lake Stevens Robotics has always placed a heavy emphasis on volunteering with the younger students in VEX IQ, so Lake Stevens Robotics hosts several IQ tournaments each year, run almost completely by high school students. Teams have also historically mentored IQ students by volunteering in their clubs as well. In 2020, students were volunteering at Highland Elementary and Lake Stevens Middle School every week. Part of volunteering for IQ clubs in the past meant helping build fields and plotting out strategies with the drivers to help them practice. While COVID-19 has changed the way robotics at Lake Stevens Robotics and LSMS IQ is done, that doesn't mean that volunteering has to stop. It is still possible give presentations on the importance of engineering notebooks and help students find problems in their code, and it is no less important than any help students could get in person.
Online Middle School Engineering Notebook Presentation for LSMS IQ
Created and presented by a Lake Stevens Robotics student, this presentation was created to give middle school IQ robotics members an introduction to engineering notebooks during COVID-19. While not a exhaustive or decorated slideshow, it exemplifies the efforts of VBots and Cbots to help their younger counterparts during difficult times.
